Mirror ball pinata

I was asked to knock up a quick disco ball piñata for a childrens party this week. I love mirror balls and fairy lights and although this one went down a storm and was truly appreciated by the lucky birthday girl I'm still quite upset to see it go. I think I'm going to have to make one for our house.

We did used to have a giant one in the kitchen but got rid of it in the interests of taste when we moved. Unfortunately I've reverted to my disco ball ways and spangley ways (especially after discovering mirror ball fabric) so we're now having a bit of a mirror ball theme in our piñata house. Rest in pieces mirror ball. I don't envy whoever had to clean up all the mosaic tiles afterwards (obviously not made of glass).

Shelter fundraising donation

Fujitsu recently had a fund-raising event for Shelter and I was asked to make a donation to the northern branch by an old school friend. The order included an old 80's style mobile phone, a bulky computer monitor, a piggy bank and the Fujitsu logo for people to smash up.

I wasn't quite sure how to do the logo as I find bubble writing much easier when it comes to piñatas so I feel I cheated a little by covering a cardboard box and putting it on but they seemed happy with it anyway!

I really should do something about the strippers in my kitchen though, they seem to be quite a permanent feature now!  I think if I do many more personal projects I'll have to ether sell off some of the old ones or organise some storage space somewhere else. I've already stuffed piñatas in friends garages and lofts! Which actually lead to a recent sale when one of them had a visitor but I'd grown quite fond of the Chinese dragon in question. In fact I'm not even sure if I have pictures! I've also got orders for a couple more so hopefully I'll get around to it this time.


 Anyway, I should get off and go to bed. I've got orders to get on with and I'm behind on several blog posts as usual and I've been distracted by painting butterflies and 'paper-clips' (as my children call them). I'll add them to my list of projects to write about even though they're not piñatas! One day I'll nag my web guy into finishing the website and I'll be able to use this blog as it was intended - for personal use!

Snowman pinata

This years snowman piñata. He's not quite finished yet but he'll probably have to do as is till next year as the orders are racking up and we have a party to organise for our youngest child. We're also hoping to get some more pics with a blue sky in the background before the snow melts! Here's a good preview anyway!

Christmas orders.

We've been really busy with Christmas orders again this year. The ever popular Christmas pudding piñata's being outranked by little monsters. Which was quite surprising. We'll add new photo's when we've finally caught up with everything and dealt with the giant balls and assorted body parts! 

 

 

Vip party - check out ma poles!

These aren't technically a piñata, but they could have been. This was a quickly knocked up cordon for a VIP party. There was a set either side of the red carpet and they looked pretty damn good at the event, even if I do say so myself.

The organiser couldn't find any to buy online and managed to talk me into it. We had to knock them up during a busy few days and they weren't as dry as we'd have liked but they worked quite well. The cord is Japanese silk bondage rope and looked great hanging between the cordon poles.

VW camper van wedding card box

This is another wedding card box and it's the last order we're doing before we move. We're hoping to get chance to finish off a few projects of our own between packing and organising everything, there's less than 3 weeks to go now.

It's smaller than the last one and the slot is at the top of the roof - there are more pictures in the facebook album click on this text to see the full set of pictures . The wheels also move on this particular card box, but not incredibly well! 

These wedding card boxes are unique to us and custom made to your specifications.

Wedding piñata

We have a couple of commissions for wedding piñatas and valentines day is coming up so our house is full of hearts and flowers!

Max - giant piñata head

Max is the first piñata we've ever made for a TV programme.

This piñata is over a meter tall. Its built on a box base. We've also used stuffing to help strengthen it and as a dry layer to ensure it was finished within the original 4 day deadline.

It was designed to withstand a few direct hits from professional cricketers armed with bats. click here for the full set of pictures

Giant hat piñata

This would work well for an Alice in wonderland themed party, burlesque nights, weddings, stag parties, rocky horror theme nights or any other event that would suit a top hat!


This piñata measures around 60x90cm. At the moment its free standing so that it can support more weight. It could be decorated to suit a particular event, or be used as decoration or storage.

Babushka

You might wonder why I've included a Russian doll in with the Christmas/winter piñatas. I grew up with a melting pot of cultures and I happen to have a soft spot for Babushka.

The very short version is that when the 3 wise men came knocking at her door and invited her to come with them to deliver gifts to the new king she put it off. When she realised what a mistake that was she began delivering presents to every child hoping that one of them would be the Christ child.

There are so many different versions of this story but I think its a lot more preferable than the story of some dodgy tubby geezer dressed in red that likes creeping around in kids bedrooms to deliver presents with no real explanation. Plus the coca cola Santa looks like he's got a drinking problem and I'm not sure he's fit to be driving a sleigh - especially one that can fly.

If you're wondering where my issues with Santa originated from - we had a Swedish troll that looked like Santa and still comes out to lurk on my mums mantelpiece every Christmas. I'll try to get some pics next year!

Tommy gun piñata

This is a 1920's/30's Tommy gun piñata. Made from newspaper for a reunion/birthday party.

It’s fairly indestructible. Were just waiting for the birthday boy to decide whether to have it stuffed and beat it to pieces or keep it as a decoration before we touch up the paintwork a little.
